We recommend taking a stroll around the Old Port, discovering the Tours Saint-Nicolas, de la Cha\u00eene and de la Lanterne, then stopping off at a caf\u00e9 or restaurant to enjoy all the good local produce. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From La Rochelle, you can take an inter-island cruise<\/strong> to the famous islands of R\u00e9<\/strong>, Aix<\/strong> and Ol\u00e9ron<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel by boat or car to the \u00cele de R\u00e9<\/a> and visit the island’s main tourist attractions<\/strong>: the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, the Atelier Quillet, Fort la Pr\u00e9e and the salt marshes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Boyard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Famous the world over for its televised game show, the Fort Boyard <\/a><\/strong>was built in the 19th century to protect the mouth of the Charente river. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was later used as a prison<\/strong>, before becoming the filming location for the TV show of the same name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
