La Rochelle

We recommend taking a stroll around the Old Port, discovering the Tours Saint-Nicolas, de la Chaîne and de la Lanterne, then stopping off at a café or restaurant to enjoy all the good local produce.
Continue your tour of the city with a visit to the La Rochelle Aquariumone of the largest aquariums in Europe.
Take advantage of your stopover in La Rochelle to visit the city’s museums: the Bunker de La Rochelle, the Musée Maritime, the Musée du Nouveau Monde, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle.
The islands
From La Rochelle, you can take an inter-island cruise to the famous islands of Ré, Aix and Oléron.
Travel by boat or car to the Île de Ré and visit the island’s main tourist attractions: the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, the Atelier Quillet, Fort la Prée and the salt marshes.
Continue your tour of the Charente-Maritime islands and head for the Ile d’Aix. Cars are not allowed on this itinerary, so walking and cycling are on the agenda.
The furthest island is Oleron, but here you can take the famous oyster route, visit Château-d’Oléron or go surfing.
Rochefort and the Corderie Royale
The town of Rochefort is less than 30 minutes away. Rochefort is a famous spa town, but it’s also home to another treasure: the Corderie Royale, where you can discover the secrets of rope-making.
The port of Rochefort is also known as the home port of the famous frigate, the Hermione.
Fort Boyard
Famous the world over for its televised game show, the Fort Boyard was built in the 19th century to protect the mouth of the Charente river.
It was later used as a prison, before becoming the filming location for the TV show of the same name.
You can’t get to Fort Boyard, but you can get close to it on our cruises AND you can see it from our sea-facing Guinguette: La Baie des Îles.
The Poitevin Marshes
